Types of Migraines

Reed Chiropractic Clinic Can Treat Migraines

Migraines are terribly common among the human population. They can hit anyone at any time and for several reasons. Those who suffer migraines or have a loved one that does know just how easily a migraine can ruin a person’s day or week.

Receiving care from a chiropractor for migraines has not become a regular avenue for treatment, but more and more people are seeing the benefits. Chiropractors are more often associated with treating back and neck trouble, and people often do not realize how many issues in our body can cause seemingly unrelated problems. Here at Reed Chiropractic Clinic, we want to help you experience the incredible relief that migraine sufferers can gain from treating the whole person- not just the symptoms.

Types of Migraine Headaches

Migraines can fit into many categories, but the following are four broad categories that almost all migraines can fit into:

Traditional Migraines

Traditional migraines are what most people think of when they hear the word “migraine”. They tend to start on one side of the head- often behind the eye- and sometimes spread to other areas. With traditional migraines typically comes dizziness, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, potential balance problems, and sometimes visual disturbances.

Tension Migraines

Tension migraines occur when tension headaches last for longer than typical headaches, do not respond to medication or only respond for a short time, or come with common migraine symptoms. Tension headaches are more of a dull ongoing ache. When that ache becomes a more charged, sharp pain, it is usually considered a tension migraine.

Silent Migraines

Occasionally, migraine sufferers will have migraines that come with all the common symptoms minus the pain. These are known as “silent migraines” and are sometimes mistaken for other things since no pain is accompanying them.

Chronic Migraines

Migraines are considered chronic if you have headaches for at least 15 days each month with at least eight of those days coming with migraine symptoms.

Common Causes of Migraines

The causes of migraines can be as varied as the people who suffer from them, but some common causes include:

  • Hormonal fluctuations
  • Stress
  • Lack of quality sleep
  • Injuries due to events such as a car crash or whiplash
  • Misalignment of the spine and joints, which can lead to extra pressure on muscles and affect communication to the pain center of the brain
  • Improper blood flow to the brain
  • Weakened support muscles

How Reed Chiropractic Clinic of Solon Can Help

Care from a chiropractor can help relieve migraines through several methods, including but not limited to the following:

  • Spinal treatment and spinal decompression can help straighten curved spines or take the pressure off nerves and muscles, according to your needs.
  • Physical therapy can help you strengthen support muscles and relieve tension on nerves and muscles.
  • Massage therapy to help loosen muscles for pain relief as well as to allow the chiropractor greater access to the joints and spine.

We are dedicated to treating you as an individual. That is why we spend time getting to know you and what you are going through before creating an individualized treatment plan. This includes trying to determine the cause of your suffering. A car crash or whiplash issue typically requires a different treatment than those who have muscle issues or improper posture.
