Sports Taping for Injury Treatment

Sports Taping for Injury Treatment

person running in Solon, OH

At Reed Chiropractic Clinic, we often treat athletes who are recovering from sports injury. One technique we use to support our chiropractic care and speed up their recovery is sports taping. Learn about sports taping and how it can help treat a sports injury.

Why Try Sports Taping?

For sports injury treatment in Solon, we focus on fast healing from the root of your injury, never using medication to mask pain. If you seek full injury healing, and do not want recurrence, you must try sports taping.

Sports Taping Techniques

Our chiropractors apply a different taping technique depending on the location of your injury. Here are some of the common techniques we use:

  • Wrist: To treat wrist pain, such as wrist sprain or carpal tunnel, we either apply tape from the wrist straight down the forearm, or we wrap the tape around the forearm to create a twist. We will determine which application to perform based upon your specific wrist injuries and how the ligaments need support to heal.

  • Knee: Taping for knees wraps around the kneecap, leaving the kneecap itself exposed, since it shifts so much. We begin with an anchor band above and below the knee, and then apply a J shape beside and underneath the knee cap. We reinforce both sides for stability and healing. Instead of the J we may apply an X shape to treat MCL injuries. To support the knee from related injuries to the IT band, we can tape the hamstring.

  • Ankle: We often use a figure eight taping for sprained ankle to support healing. Other injuries benefit from taping around the heel, to provide added support to those ligaments. For Achilles tendon injuries, we tape the bottom of the foot up the calf and then create an X from the bottom of the foot around the sides of the calf, providing stability to the Achilles tendon and promoting healing.
