Spinal Decompression

Spinal Decompression from Solon, OH Chiropractor

.

If you're suffering from acute or chronic back pain, neck pain, tingling/numb extremities and other disabling symptoms, you may be one of the many people plagued by a spinal compression condition or injury. Degenerative disc disease, accident injuries, sports injuries or a lifetime's worth of spinal misalignment may have led discs or other spinal structures to press against nerve tissue. The good news is that you don't necessarily have to risk major back or neck surgery. Your Solon chiropractor here at Reed Chiropractic (Dr. Randy Reed or Dr. Matthew Grant) can use safe, non-surgical spinal decompression to resolve your discomfort and dysfunction.

How Spinal Compression Causes Back Pain and Other Problems

When your spinal column and its surrounding structures are all in their proper position, there's plenty of room for various systems to operate efficiently and in harmony with each other. The discs that cushion the spine don't just absorb shock; they also act as spacers, maintaining just the right distance between each vertebra to support the facet joints that articulate the whole assembly. When something disturbs this delicate balance, back pain and other problems can occur. For example:

  • Aging discs that lose their hydration may flatten, causing a loss of spinal height and straining the facet joints
  • Herniated discs may pinch major nerve roots, disrupting nerve signals to an entire limb
  • Spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal) can impinge the spinal cord itself

Nerve impingement from spinal compression can cause both localized pain (such as the pain caused by the herniation of a disc) and referred pain. Referred pain symptoms may including tingling, pain and numbness in the upper extremities (cervical radiculopathy) or in the lower extremities (sciatica), depending on which part of the spine is involved.

A Non-Surgical Answer for Neck Pain, Back Pain and Nerve Impingement

Many people are understandably hesitant to undergo spinal decompression surgery. Discectomy, laminectomy and spinal fusion procedures permanently alter the spinal structures (not always for the better) while requiring significant recuperation time. It always makes sense to try conservative treatment techniques first. That's why we're proud to offer non-surgical spinal decompression therapy alongside our chiropractic adjustment and other safe, non-invasive healing methods.

Our form of spinal decompression is based on the principle of applying small amounts of flexion distraction force to the spinal column. This unloads the compressed area and creates vacuum pressure that helps reorient bulging and herniated discs, infusing them with water and healing nutrients. This takes the pinch off of nerve tissue, giving you prompt, drug-free relief from your referred pain and other symptoms.
